The Boss

Today is the last working day of my boss. I have been under him for only 13 months, and yet I had learned a lot from him.

There were only 3 of us in the Legal Department. However, Atty. Donna resigned last January to join her husband in Australia. Then today, Atty. Ram is saying goodbye to work, and hello to retirement.

He had been with PCFC for over 10 years, and just before a month he turned 60, he decided to retire and enjoy life as a senior citizen (this was the news he gave me when I got back from my Christmas vacation).

I admit, I supported his decision. I actually encouraged him, because I had seen him work like a horse during the short time I was with him. He brings home paper works, and his weekends are often spent going over them. His table is always full of documents, but at the end of the day, all these are returned with his legal opinion/recommendation. He doesn’t want these documents to sleep long on his table. One work ethic that I admire the most.

When the news went out regarding his retirement, our once quiet little nook was often flocked with people encouraging him to reconsider. My day isn’t complete without hearing the voices of these co-workers, especially Sir Randy (he drops by every morning!).

Food & Company

Last week, majority of the staff and the bosses were on a 3-day training outside the company premises. A few of us were left in the office. It was really quiet and there were no dramas at all.

We took advantage of the situation! Since we have 4 new employees, we “volunteered” them for a food treat. And they easily gave in, no sweat at all!

At 3:30, we converged and shared a delightful merienda.

First day, we had Chami Special from Buddy’s.

Second day, we had pizza and lots of soda.

I got my cards and ID’s back! Thank God. Though the atm and credit cards are useless, I’m still glad everything was returned to me.

These were claimed by the sister of my officemate who lives in Gagalangin. Thank you so much, Tita Beth.

I don’t want to go into details. The story became twisted as to how the man found my cards. I don’t care anymore. He texted me again:

I texted back and said thank you for the last time.

I hope I won’t be hearing from him anymore.

Getting Fancy

Scarves are commonly worn these days. I wish of wearing one too, in the office. But, I bet I’ll look misplaced hehehehe. You see, my desk is directly across the airconditioning unit…VERY cold... very Antarctica. My hot coffee has to be gulped in 5 minutes, otherwise I’ll have the coldest coffee instead.

During a late Starbucks date, I saw 2 young ladies with fancy scarves. Paparazzi mode switched on, hahahaha.

From this, you can really guess that the 2 girls are truly the best of friends! =)

Anyway, for now, while contemplating on my outfit, I'll have to learn the different ways of wearing a scarf.

Kapihan Session for the Month of May

Everyone was ecstatic. A prestigious guest was invited to speak for our company’s Kapihan Session last May 23. Weeks before the said session, emails were already sent out to mark the calendar.

Then a miracle happened: my officemates were already in the Boardroom minutes before the activity. You see, we are not always this punctual. Our HR officers will do the rounds for at least 3 times before we move out of our desks to attend any activity.

The speaker is sought by many. He gives over 300 talks in a year, inspiring and motivating people from different industries.

He is a founding member and Director of Inspire Leadership Consultancy.

He has extensive work experiences in manufacturing and retail as he help founded a popular clothing company (Company B) and ran a retail chain for many years (Replay).

He is a Philippine Star columnist and a regular guest of Umagang Kay Ganda (every Thursday).

Some said he looked like Jose Mari Chan. Others claimed he looked like Richard Poon.

FJK talked about “Managing Perspective for Success”. He explained the Knowing-Learning-Doing theory, and emphasized that there is no shortcut to success.

One key to success is faithfulness. Employees of a company who have been in the service for 10 years or more must be recognized. These are people who devoted their lives for the betterment of the company, who served with utmost enthusiasm and dedication for being able to stay that long.

“Wherever you are, be there”. Focus on your job. Work hard, even beyond your comfort zone. Even if you are working on the same thing for years, love it...for if you love what you do, you are no longer working.

You cannot succeed alone. Work as a team, succeed as a team. Be a team player and develop people-skills.

 If you keep telling people who you are, then it's not who you really are. People need not be told, they will know.

Full packed. Not the usual attendance during Kapihan.

FJK was well equipped, with anecdotes and jokes. We were laughing the whole time he was talking. He is a total performer, with a knack for timing and delivery. 

I was totally floored!

I'm happy for this rare opportunity. 

Happier that the company could afford FJK (he is expensive!).

Happiest that everyone appreciated the company's effort to motivate its employees to do better.
